Ringgold, LA (2/25/2024) – Louisiana State Police (LSP) Troop G commenced an investigation into a tragic single-vehicle crash resulting in the death of a juvenile pedestrian in the 1300 block of School Street on Saturday, February 24, 2024, around 11:30 a.m.
The victim, identified as 7-year-old Kaiden Coke of Ringgold, lost his life in the incident.
According to preliminary findings, the crash occurred when a 2011 Dodge Ram, occupied by a driver, was backing into a parking space within a private parking lot. Simultaneously, young Coke was playing with a ball in the same vicinity. The ball rolled underneath the Ram, prompting Coke to retrieve it. Unaware of Coke’s presence under the vehicle, the driver began to pull out of the parking space, resulting in a collision with the juvenile.
Tragically, Kaiden Coke was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Bienville Parish Coroner’s Office. The driver of the Dodge Ram sustained no injuries. While impairment is not suspected, routine toxicology samples were collected for analysis. The investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
LSP emphasizes the importance of road safety, particularly in preventing fatal crashes involving children. As Troopers continue their efforts to safeguard roadways, the incident serves as a poignant reminder of the need for heightened vigilance, especially as warmer weather approaches.
