SIMMESPORT, La. (UrbanCast: 6/9/2026) — A 911 call changed everything. A child’s voice broke through the line, screaming, “Stop beating my momma.” Then the call went dead.
Avoyelles Parish dispatchers traced the signal to Kermit Street. Officers arrived and found Frederick Wright, 49, striking an adult woman in the middle of the road.
Police ordered Wright to stop. He ran. Officers caught him after a short foot chase and placed him under arrest.
Medical personnel evaluated both the woman and the child at the scene. Both were treated and released.
Wright now faces six charges in connection with the incident. Avoyelles Parish Jail booked him on disturbing the peace by intoxication, resisting an officer, domestic abuse battery, domestic abuse strangulation, domestic abuse child endangerment, and second degree battery.
Chief Damion Jacobs credited the outcome to his team. He praised both responding officers and dispatch personnel for their fast, professional response.
The Simmesport Police Department continues to prioritize domestic violence cases and the safety of all residents.
