RPSB Student from Alexandria Senior High Receives The Gates Scholarship

Alexandria, LA (5/17/2024) – This spring, over 53,000 applications were considered for The Gates Scholarship. Of those, only 750 students were awarded this prestigious scholarship. One of these distinguished recipients is Kimora Hardwell, a graduate of Alexandria Senior High School.

The Gates Scholarship is a highly selective, last-dollar scholarship that covers remaining tuition and fees after other forms of financial aid have been applied. In addition to tuition, the scholarship covers travel, books, and personal expenses.

While Hardwell was already awarded scholarships from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, her family is thrilled she will have this additional support throughout her college career and beyond.

The benefits of The Gates Scholarship extend beyond financial support. Hardwell will join a cohort of fellow Gates Scholars who meet annually for networking and personal development. The opening conference will be held in Phoenix, Arizona, in July, where she will connect with the other 749 recipients and begin her journey as a Gates Scholar.

Through the scholarship, Hardwell will also gain access to mentors, assistance in securing internships, and guidance in career planning.

As one of the top graduates at Alexandria Senior High, Hardwell scored a composite 30 on the ACT and earned 30 hours of college credit. Her teachers and administrators commend her drive and commitment to excellence.

“I’m excited to start meeting new people and networking with them. This scholarship will help me get out of my comfort zone and open up new experiences. It will also take the financial burden off my mom’s shoulders,” Hardwell said.

The Gates Scholarship is awarded to minority, low-income students with exceptional academic abilities to help them maximize their potential. Hardwell’s achievement is a testament to her tenacious spirit and academic prowess.
