Birmingham, AL (2/26/2024) – Alexandria’s track sensation, Keontae Gaines, lit up the SLC Indoor Track and Field Championship, representing Northwestern State University (NSU) with an awe-inspiring performance.
Gaines showcased his blazing speed by clinching two gold medals and rewriting the conference record books. In the 60-meter dash, he blazed across the finish line in a remarkable 6.68 seconds, claiming his first gold of the day.
Undeterred, Gaines continued his dominance in the 200-meter race, shattering the field with a blistering time of 20.72 seconds, establishing a new conference meet record and securing his second gold medal of the competition.
Gaines told us his intentions last week, and true to his word, he delivered a performance that left spectators in awe and admiration. His determination and self-belief serve as a beacon of motivation for athletes everywhere.
Reflecting on his triumphs, Gaines emphasized the resilience and perseverance required to overcome setbacks. He reiterated the importance of self-definition and asserted his identity as a champion, proving his worth on the track.
In addition to Gaines’ individual success, the NSU women’s team secured victory for the second consecutive season, claiming the Southland Conference team title and further solidifying NSU’s dominance in collegiate track and field.
