Natchitoches Parish, LA (May 12, 2024) – The Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office managed two separate incidents on Sunday night, both involving downed trees obstructing roadways in the area.
Incident 1: South of Provencal
At 10:05 PM, deputies responded to reports of a large tree obstructing one lane and partially blocking another on La. Hwy 117, south of the Sylvest Road south of Provencal, Louisiana. The Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office advised motorists to exercise caution while driving through the area and to avoid distractions. The Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) was alerted and dispatched to the scene to clear the roadway. Additionally, assistance was provided by the Natchitoches Parish Fire District #4 and Provencal Police to manage traffic control. Motorists were advised to anticipate a brief delay while the obstruction was being cleared.
Incident 2: Fairview Alpha
Later, at 11:00 PM, deputies responded to two separate crashes involving a fallen tree across US-71 near the Family Dollar in Fairview Alpha. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries in either incident. However, the road was partially blocked, prompting a traffic advisory for motorists traveling through the area. Louisiana State Police and the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (La. DOTD) were notified of the situation. Natchitoches Regional Medical Center EMS also responded to the scene but cleared without transporting any individuals.
Both incidents were promptly addressed by the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from other local agencies and authorities. As of the latest updates provided by the Sheriff’s Office, all lanes have been reopened in both locations.
