Pineville, LA (3/14/2024) – Louisiana Christian University’s (LCU) own Jason Mercer has been acknowledged for his outstanding contributions to the field of business education. As the coordinator of distance education at LCU’s Center for Online Innovation and Development, Mercer has been elected as the post-secondary member at large representative for the 2024-25 academic year by the Louisiana Association of Business Educators (LABE).
The announcement came during LABE’s 2024 annual conference, which took place at LCU’s Granberry Conference Center on March 1. The event featured presentations from Empowered, a renowned support network for educators, showcasing innovative teaching strategies and resources aimed at enhancing instruction.
Mercer’s dedication to advancing education has not gone unnoticed. LABE members honored him with the 2023 Administrator of the Year award for his role in spearheading partnerships between LCU’s Center for Online Innovation and Development and the Ray and Dorothy Young School of Business, Technology, and Design.
Expressing his gratitude for the recognition, Mercer remarked, “It is a privilege to grow and serve in an organization that has provided me with so many opportunities over the years and to help support the next generation of business educators.”
Under Mercer’s leadership, the Center for Online Innovation and Development has collaborated with faculty to develop various educational programs, including undergraduate and graduate certificates in project management, Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration, Master of Business Administration, and Master of Strategic Leadership.
Despite his busy schedule, Mercer remains committed to personal and professional growth. Currently pursuing coursework to obtain the PMI Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) and a Master of Strategic Leadership at LCU, Mercer exemplifies a lifelong learner dedicated to LCU’s vision of “Preparing Graduates, Transforming Lives.”
Mercer’s journey into education began as a biology teacher before transitioning to teaching business computer applications and serving as a technology coordinator at Atlanta High School. Since joining LABE in 2015, Mercer has actively contributed to the organization’s mission, leading to his appointment as the International Society of Business Educators U.S. Southern Region representative.
Mitzi Fontenot, LABE’s current president, praised Mercer’s commitment to supporting educators and students, highlighting his willingness to share knowledge and expertise. Fontenot emphasized Mercer’s invaluable contributions to Louisiana’s business education community, citing his role as a driving force behind her own involvement with LABE.
