Labadieville woman arrested in Medicaid fraud case totaling $144K

Labadieville, La. (5/1/2026) – A Labadieville woman is facing multiple felony charges after state investigators say she fraudulently obtained nearly $144,000 in Medicaid benefits.

The Louisiana Bureau of Investigation, under Attorney General Liz Murrill, made the arrest following a referral from the Louisiana Department of Health. Authorities identified the suspect as 30-year-old Nicole Carrier of Sycamore Street.

According to investigators, Carrier underreported her income to qualify for Medicaid assistance. The investigation revealed a pattern that stretched over nearly three years.

From May 2023 through February 2026, agents say Carrier provided false information about her marital status and household income. As a result, she allegedly received benefits she did not qualify for.

The total loss to the Medicaid program is estimated at nearly $144,000.

On Tuesday, April 28, 2026, agents arrested Carrier on a warrant issued by the 19th Judicial District Court. She now faces multiple charges tied to fraud and public records violations.

Specifically, Carrier is charged with four counts of Government Benefits Fraud and three counts of First Degree Injuring Public Records.

Authorities booked her without incident into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. However, bond information was not immediately available.

Attorney General Murrill emphasized the broader impact of the case. She stated that Medicaid fraud directly affects taxpayers across Louisiana.

“This is taxpayer money,” Murrill said. “Anyone who steals from Medicaid is stealing from Louisiana taxpayers, and we will ensure they are arrested and prosecuted.”

Meanwhile, officials confirmed the investigation remains ongoing.
