LaPlace, La. (10/15/2022) – A juvenile, 15, was arrested Friday, October 14, 2022, in connection to the shooting death of Yasmine Halum, 19.
On Sunday, October 9, 2022, at about 3 p.m., deputies responded to a shot fired in the 1400 block of Van Arpel Drive in LaPlace. Upon arrival, officers located Halum lying unresponsive in the front yard of a residence. She had sustained a gunshot wound to the torso. Halum was transported to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced deceased.
Through investigation, the male juvenile was determined to be responsible for the shooting death of Halum. Based on evidence gathered through this investigation, detectives obtained a judicial warrant for the juvenile’s arrest. He was charged with second-degree murder. He is in custody at the Sherman Walker Correctional Facility.
Sheriff Mike Tregre said he is grateful to those who came forward with information that led to this arrest. “We received many tips from the youth in the community that helped our detectives with this case,” Sheriff Tregre said. “We deeply appreciate their cooperation.”
