Alexandria, La. (UrbanCast: 7/16/2026) – Funeral services have been announced for Deputy U.S. Marshal Michael Andrew “Drew” Hanson, who was killed in the line of duty in Alexandria.
Hanson, 36, died Monday, July 13, while helping serve an arrest warrant on a wanted fugitive near Rutland Road.
His funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 18, at The Pentecostals of Alexandria Church.
Visitation will begin at noon at the church and continue until the service starts. A private committal will follow.
Glenn Belgard will officiate the service. Hixson Brothers Funeral Home in Alexandria is handling the arrangements.
Hanson was born Sept. 15, 1989, to Michael Dewayne Hanson and Sarah Joan Sharp Hanson.
He Felt Called to Serve Others
From an early age, he felt called to serve others. That calling eventually led him to fulfill his dream of becoming a Deputy U.S. Marshal.
Hanson served his country and community with courage, humility, and dedication.
He understood that wearing the badge carried a responsibility to protect others, uphold justice, and stand between danger and the innocent.
Hanson was working alongside other law enforcement officers when authorities attempted to arrest 48-year-old Clarence A. Frazier Jr.
Authorities said Frazier failed to appear for trial on a state sexual battery charge.
The U.S. Marshals Service said Hanson was shot during the operation. He died while carrying out his duty to protect others.
Federal prosecutors later charged Frazier with the murder of a federal officer.
News of Hanson’s death brought an outpouring of grief and support from Central Louisiana and communities across the region.
Residents, public officials, law enforcement officers, and first responders shared prayers and condolences for his family.
Many thanked Hanson for his courage, sacrifice, and willingness to serve in a profession filled with danger.
While his career reflected his commitment to others, Hanson’s greatest joy came from his family.
He was a devoted husband to Natalie Oshee Hanson and a loving father to Kol and Sadie.
Family as the Center of His World
His obituary describes his family as the center of his world. He filled their home with love, laughter, strength, and support.
Those who knew Hanson also remembered his warm smile, compassionate heart, and welcoming spirit.
He had a gift for making people feel seen, heard, and valued. Friends said he rarely met a stranger.
Hanson is survived by his wife, Natalie; his children, Kol and Sadie; and his parents, Michael Dewayne Hanson and Sarah Hanson.
He also leaves behind countless friends, colleagues, neighbors, and members of the law enforcement community.
His family thanked fellow officers, first responders, medical personnel, and everyone who offered prayers, love, and support.
The community will now gather to honor a husband, father, son, friend, and law enforcement officer who gave his life serving others.
