Alexandria, La. (5/2/2026) – Congressman Cleo Fields will host a town hall in Alexandria as Louisiana faces major changes to its congressional map. The meeting comes days after the state halted congressional primaries following a Supreme Court ruling.
A press release from U.S. Rep. Cleo Fields and State Rep. Ed Larvadain confirms the event will take place Tuesday, May 5, at 5:30 p.m. The location is Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church on 11th Street.
Earlier this week, Governor Jeff Landry suspended Louisiana’s congressional primary elections. He issued the order after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled the state’s maps unconstitutional in Louisiana v. Callais.
The decision forced the state to pause elections scheduled for May and June. The suspension will remain in place until at least mid-July or until lawmakers approve new maps.
The Cleo Fields Alexandria town hall will focus on that ruling and what comes next. Organizers plan to explain how redistricting changes could affect representation across Louisiana.
Residents will also have the opportunity to ask questions and share concerns. Officials are encouraging public participation as lawmakers work to redraw district lines.
The event is part of a multi-city town hall series across the state. Additional scheduled stops include:
- Monday, May 4 at 5:30 p.m. in Shreveport at Galilee Baptist Church Gymnasium, 1500 Pierre Avenue
- Wednesday, May 6 at 5:30 p.m. in Lafayette at the Clifton Chenier Center Auditorium, 220 W Willow Street, Building A
- Thursday, May 7 at 5:30 p.m. in Baton Rouge at BRCC Magnolia Theater, 201 Community College Drive
Rep. Larvadain’s office stated that public input is critical during this process. The town hall is open to all residents.
