Central Louisiana Weather Update: Hurricane Francine and Weekend Forecast (9/12/2024)

Central Louisiana will experience generally dry and warmer conditions throughout the weekend, with temperatures rising.

Today’s high will range from 80 to 85 degrees, with a slight 15-20% chance of rain. Winds will shift from the northwest at 5-15 MPH.

On Friday, temperatures will reach 85 to 91 degrees, and the chance of rain drops to zero. Winds from the west at 5-10 MPH will make for a pleasant day. Nighttime lows will range from 65 to 74 degrees.

Saturday brings a hot day with temperatures between 88 to 93 degrees. The heat index will push as high as 105 degrees, so heat precautions are advised. Rain chances remain low at less than 5%, and winds will be light, shifting from the southwest at 4-8 MPH. Saturday night temperatures will cool to between 69 and 75 degrees.

Sunday’s forecast will be similar, with highs between 87 and 93 degrees and a heat index peaking at 103 degrees. There’s a small chance of rain, particularly in south-central Louisiana, with west to southwest winds at 4-8 MPH.

As for Tropical Storm Francine, the system is tracking north-northeast at 12 MPH, with maximum sustained winds of 45 MPH. The storm is expected to weaken as it moves inland. Central Louisiana is not currently in the direct path, but residents should stay aware of any sudden changes. The National Hurricane Center forecasts Francine to dissipate by late Friday.
