While on duty for extra duty and traveling along Greenwell Springs Road, Cpl. Lee was flagged down by a passing vehicle, setting off a chain of events that would lead to the safe delivery of a baby boy.
The driver of the vehicle urgently informed Cpl. Lee that her daughter was on the verge of giving birth and requested a police escort to the nearest hospital. Without hesitation, Cpl. Lee guided the vehicle, driven by the expectant mother’s family, toward the hospital. However, fate had a different plan in store.
As they made their way, circumstances escalated rapidly, and it became evident that they wouldn’t reach the hospital in time. In a moment of swift decision-making and calm under pressure, Cpl. Lee directed the driver to pull over to the shoulder on Florida Street and Central Thruway.
With the mother in the throes of labor, Cpl. Lee immediately called for medical assistance while springing into action himself. In a remarkable display of courage and professionalism, Cpl. Lee assumed the role of delivering the baby, ensuring both the mother and the newborn’s well-being in a critical moment.
Thanks to Cpl. Lee’s quick thinking and decisive action, a healthy baby boy was brought into the world on the side of the road, amidst the hustle and bustle of Baton Rouge. This extraordinary act of service and compassion highlights the dedication and readiness of law enforcement officers like Cpl.
