ALEXANDRIA, LA (4/15/2026) — Rapides Parish deputies are currently searching for a man who escaped custody early Wednesday morning.
The incident began around 2:41 a.m. on the 4700 block of North Bolton Avenue. Deputies arrived at the scene to investigate a domestic disturbance involving a child. Initial reports suggested the suspect was armed with a handgun.
Arrest and Unexpected Escape
Officers quickly located and arrested 25-year-old Jamir Yasin Baxter. They placed him in handcuffs in the back of a patrol unit. Although they searched the area, deputies did not find a firearm.
While investigators gathered statements from victims, Baxter reportedly damaged the plexiglass cage inside the vehicle. He then squeezed into the front seat and fled the scene on foot. Deputies searched the immediate area but could not locate him.
Ongoing Search Efforts
RPSO K-9 units and Special Operations teams have been tracking Baxter throughout the day. Detectives are currently following several active leads. They also warned that anyone helping Baxter elude capture will face arrest.
Suspect Description and Charges
Baxter is a male, 5’4” tall, and weighs approximately 130 pounds. He has short dreadlocks and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing brown pants with no shirt and is still wearing handcuffs.
He faces numerous charges, including domestic abuse battery and simple escape. Other charges include possession of methamphetamine and criminal damage to property.
