Grambling, La. (4/26/2026) – Three Alexandria natives took the stage this week in Grambling State University’s production of Dreamgirls.
The show ran from April 22 through April 26, 2026, at the Floyd Sandle Theatre inside the Conrad Hutchinson Performing Arts Center.
The Tony Award-winning musical follows a rising girl group navigating fame, friendship, and the music industry. Set in the 1960s and 1970s, the story captures both success and sacrifice. The production features iconic songs like “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going” and “One Night Only.”
Three Alexandrial Louisiana artists played key roles in the production. Destiny Hagan, a 2023 Bolton High graduate, performed as Effie. Kayden Shelmire, a 2024 Alexandria Senior High graduate, played Lorrell. Rylee Beaudion, also a 2024 ASH graduate, performed as an ensemble dancer.
The cast delivered strong vocals and sharp choreography throughout the show. The performance highlighted ambition, resilience, and the power of Black artistry. The Alexandria natives Dreamgirls Grambling State production reflects local talent performing on a larger stage.
