Add two more names to the growing list of companies closing their doors at the Alexandria Mall

Alexandria, LA (1/10/2023) – InStyle’s last day was December 31, 2022. The store has since been completely vacated. For returns or other purchase issues, You must contact the store in Lafayette.

Another stunner closing is Mandarin Express, the Chinese restaurant in the mall. A person familiar with the plans said the store was moving to Baton Rouge.

These stores’ closing continues an all too familiar trend for the Alexandria Mall and traditional malls everywhere. Online and on-demand shopping is replacing the big malls. Modern shopping districts make the shopping experience different than what the traditional mall provides.

What will happen with the Alexandria Mall if this trend continues with stores closing both small and big (Champs and Bed Bath and Beyond)? Does the new administration have the plan to replace that economic driver in our community?

Who knows. What we do see is that the mall as we know it formatted is dying. Ours is no different.

We hope the administration and the council take a hard look at the inevitable and get proactive on ways to replace the mall as a viable economic driver in our community.
