Simmesport, La. (UrbanCast: 8/14/2026) – Simmesport Police have arrested a man following an investigation that involved local and state law enforcement agencies.
The Simmesport Police Department identified the man as Ja’vonte Stevenson.
Police said Stevenson faces two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
He also faces charges involving the general speed law and having an open container of alcohol.
According to police, the investigation included a search of Stevenson’s residence on Branch Street in Simmesport.
The Simmesport Police Department and Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office assisted Louisiana Probation and Parole with the search.
During the search, authorities confiscated two firearms, according to the department.
Police said the discovery led Simmesport detectives to open an investigation.
Additionally, detectives collected evidence connected to the department’s arrest warrant investigation.
Stevenson was not at the Branch Street residence when authorities conducted the search.
However, officers later located Stevenson and took him into custody.
Following the arrest, Louisiana Probation and Parole placed a hold on Stevenson.
Officers then transported him to the Avoyelles Parish Jail for booking on the pending charges.
The Simmesport Police Department thanked the sheriff’s office and Louisiana Probation and Parole for their assistance.
Police have not released additional information about the investigation or circumstances surrounding the initial encounter.
The charges are accusations. Stevenson is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
