Alexandria, La. (UrbanCast: 8/14/2026) – A shooting reported late Thursday night in Alexandria has now been confirmed as a homicide.
The Alexandria Police Department identified the victim Friday morning as 21-year-old Patrick Battles III.
APD said officers responded to a local hospital around 10:50 p.m. Thursday. Battles had suffered a gunshot wound and later died from his injuries.
Police confirmed the shooting occurred in the 3700 block of Third Street.
UrbanCast reported from the area early Friday morning while law enforcement remained at the scene.
Third Street near Willow Glen River Road was blocked in multiple directions. Drivers approaching the area were being turned around.
At that time, authorities had not publicly confirmed what happened.
A nearby resident told UrbanCast they heard what sounded like an exchange of gunfire. The resident also reported seeing people transported from the area by ambulance.
Another area resident described hearing what sounded like approximately 30 seconds of sustained gunfire involving different-caliber weapons.
UrbanCast could not independently verify those descriptions of the gunfire.
Therefore, our initial reporting clearly identified the shooting, injuries, and circumstances as unconfirmed pending information from authorities.
UrbanCast also contacted City of Alexandria officials seeking confirmation and additional public safety information.
APD’s Friday morning release later confirmed Battles died following the shooting.
However, police have not said what investigators believe led to the gunfire. APD also has not announced an arrest or identified a possible suspect.
Additionally, authorities have not confirmed whether anyone else suffered injuries during the incident.
The Alexandria Police Department said the homicide remains under investigation.
