LASALLE PARISH, La. (UrbanCast: 7/17/2026) — A 16-year-old Deville teen lost his life Friday morning after a rollover crash in LaSalle Parish. Louisiana State Police arrested the driver on multiple charges, including vehicular homicide.
According to Troop E, the crash happened around 4:49 a.m. Friday, July 17, on Hunt Road near the Dewey Wills Wildlife Management Area.
Investigators said 18-year-old Reese McKenzie of Deville was driving a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado north on Hunt Road when he lost control. The truck left the roadway and overturned. State Police said multiple passengers were ejected.
Kent Sanson, 16, of Deville, was not wearing a seat belt and suffered fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
McKenzie, who also was not restrained, suffered moderate injuries and was taken to a local hospital. Five additional unrestrained passengers sustained moderate injuries and were transported for treatment.
Investigators obtained routine toxicology samples, which were submitted for analysis. State Police said impairment is suspected to have been a factor in the crash.
Following the investigation, troopers arrested McKenzie on charges of vehicular homicide, operating a vehicle while impaired, three counts of vehicular negligent injuring, careless operation, and open container. He was processed at the LaSalle Parish Sheriff’s Office.
The investigation remains active.
