RAPIDES PARISH, La. (UrbanCast: 7/6/2026) — The Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office has released new details in the July 4 shooting on Hall Street that left one man dead and another hospitalized. Investigators say the case remains active, and additional arrests are possible.
Deputies responded at approximately 4:34 p.m. Saturday, July 4, to the 5400 block of Hall Street in the Grundy Cooper Subdivision, just off Louisiana Highway 28 West, after receiving reports of shots fired.
When deputies arrived, they found a man lying in the driveway of a residence suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. An EMS provider transported him to a local hospital, where he remained in stable condition at the time of the sheriff’s office release.
Deputies also learned that another man, later identified as Kendrick Dotson, 43, had been shot. According to investigators, a neighbor transported Dotson to the hospital before deputies arrived. Despite lifesaving efforts, Dotson later succumbed to his injuries at Rapides Regional Medical Center. The Rapides Parish Coroner’s Office confirmed his death, and a standard autopsy is pending.
During the investigation, sheriff’s detectives determined that Samauria Norris and Lakeisha Lakedra Roberts went to a residence in the 5400 block of Hall Street, where a verbal disturbance occurred with Dotson. Investigators said another male later arrived at the scene, and gunfire erupted between the two men.
Based on the investigation, detectives established probable cause and obtained arrest warrants for both women. Authorities took them into custody without incident during the early morning hours of July 5.
Samauria Norris, 25, of Alexandria, was booked into the Rapides Parish Detention Center at 1:27 a.m. on the following charges:
- Second-degree murder
- Criminal conspiracy
- Obstruction of justice (evidence tampering)
Jail records show Norris was released on bond at 2:53 p.m. Sunday after posting a $1.2 million bond.
Lakeisha Lakedra Roberts, 42, of Alexandria, was booked into the Rapides Parish Detention Center at 1:43 a.m. on charges of:
- Second-degree murder
- Criminal conspiracy
As of this publication, Roberts remains in custody on a $1.1 million bond, according to Rapides Parish inmate records.
UrbanCast also spoke with the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer early Sunday morning. He said he had not yet been briefed on the latest developments but confirmed that investigators worked throughout the nightprocessing the scene, collecting evidence, and continuing the investigation.
The Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office said the investigation remains active and that more arrests are probable. Authorities previously stated there is no ongoing threat to the public.
