Alexandria City Council meeting schedule May 5, 2026

Alexandria, La. (5/5/2026) – The Alexandria City Council meeting schedule for May 5, 2026 includes both a committee meeting and a regular session at City Hall. The meetings will take place inside the Council Chambers at 915 Third Street.

First, the A&E Selection Committee will meet at 4:45 p.m. The committee will review proposals for an electric load study focused on the Twin Bridges Substation and the LA 28 West area. City officials expect discussion on firms and service professionals competing for the project.

City leaders note a scheduling format change for committee meetings. Committees will now meet back-to-back immediately after the prior meeting ends, unless stated otherwise. This approach aims to improve efficiency and public access.

Next, the Alexandria City Council will begin its regular meeting at 5:00 p.m. The council will follow its standard order, including the call to order, invocation, pledge, and roll call. Members will then vote on minutes from the April 21 meeting.

After that, the council will take up the mayor’s veto message regarding Ordinance No. 25-2026. This item could prompt discussion between the administration and council members.

The consent calendar includes several ordinances tied to city operations. These items cover bids for gas meters, janitorial chemicals, herbicides, and chlorination equipment. The council will also consider contracts for work uniforms, concrete, and construction materials.

In addition, the council will review infrastructure-related bids. These include sewer replacement on Marye Street, pump station line renovation, and electric utility emergency services. Zoo-related improvements and equipment purchases are also on the agenda.

The council will also consider a rezoning request for property on North 14th Street. The proposal would allow construction of four multi-family housing units.

Later in the meeting, the council will address several resolutions. These include advertising bids for a City Hall handicap ramp project and confirming an appointment to the GAEDA Board. Another resolution sets a future public hearing on demolition costs for multiple structures.

The council will then move into ordinances for final adoption. These items include demolition of the former Weiss and Goldring parking garage site and equipment purchases for city departments. Police department imaging systems and power plant chemical supplies are also included.

Public hearings will follow under community development. The council will continue a condemnation hearing for a structure on Lee Street. Members will also take action on demolition costs tied to 25 residential properties.

Residents who wish to speak must notify the council president at the appropriate agenda item. The meeting will adjourn after all business is completed.
