Hilton Transformed the Sheriff’s Department
During his tenure, Hilton transformed the sheriff’s department. He improved equipment and pay, expanded the parish prison, and reduced response times. Sheriff Hilton founded the Louisiana Youth Academy and placed deputies in every school. He also secured federal funding for advanced resources, including a Mobile Command Center and SWAT vehicle.
Beyond law enforcement, Hilton remained active in civic life. He supported mental health initiatives, youth programs, and anti-homelessness efforts. He also led fundraising efforts for major causes including the Red Cross and March of Dimes.
Known for treating everyone with respect, Hilton built trust across the community. Even inmates remembered his fairness.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Billie Faye Hilton, their children, grandchildren, and extended family.
