Woman identified, charged in death of former Rapides Parish Sheriff William E. Hilton

Hineston, La.(3/24/2026) —The Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office has identified the woman accused in the death of former Sheriff William E. Hilton. The case stems from a hit-and-run and pursuit in the Hineston area.

Officials confirmed Ladonna Delrie, 53, of Pollock, as the suspect. Deputies booked her into the Rapides Parish Detention Center on March 23. She faces charges including first-degree murder.

Earlier that day, deputies responded to a reported hit-and-run just before 1 p.m. Investigators said the suspect ran over the victim and fled the scene.

When deputies arrived, they found Hilton with severe injuries. Emergency crews airlifted him to a local hospital. However, he later died from those injuries.

Meanwhile, deputies quickly developed a vehicle description. They identified a blue Nissan and alerted surrounding agencies.

Soon after, deputies and Louisiana State Police located the vehicle on LA 28 near Leavines Road. Authorities said it was traveling eastbound at a high speed.

Troopers attempted a traffic stop. However, the suspect refused and accelerated, which led to a pursuit. Speeds reportedly exceeded 100 miles per hour.

As the pursuit continued, officers deployed spike strips. The strips disabled the vehicle near LA 28 and Cloverleaf Boulevard. Deputies then took the suspect into custody without further incident.

Investigators later shared additional details. They said Hilton returned home and encountered the suspect exiting his residence. When he approached her, she allegedly ran him over.

Delrie now faces multiple charges, including simple burglary, criminal damage to property, and flight from an officer. Authorities noted the investigation remains active.

Delrie bond is set at $5,300,000.00.

Officials are asking anyone with information to contact the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office or Crime Stoppers.

Sheriff Mark Wood’s office also extended condolences to Hilton’s family. They said his service left a lasting impact on the community.
