Natchitoches Woman Killed in Sabine Parish Crash at Highway 120 and 175

SABINE PARISH, La. (3/1/2026) — A Natchitoches woman killed in a Sabine Parish crash Saturday evening has been identified as 66-year-old Kathy Birdwell.

Louisiana State Police Troop E reported the fatal crash occurred February 28, 2026, at approximately 5:27 p.m.

Troopers responded to the intersection of Louisiana Highway 120 and Louisiana Highway 175. Investigators said a 2000 Chevrolet van was traveling west on Highway 120. However, for reasons still under investigation, the driver failed to stop at the intersection. As a result, the vehicle left the roadway and struck a ditch embankment.

Birdwell, who was properly restrained, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Meanwhile, the driver and two restrained passengers suffered moderate injuries. Emergency responders transported them to a local hospital for treatment.

Troopers collected routine toxicology samples and submitted them for analysis. The investigation into the crash remains ongoing.

State Police continue to warn drivers that distracted and inattentive driving is a leading cause of crashes statewide. Therefore, officials urge motorists to stay focused and alert at all times. Even a brief lapse in attention can have deadly consequences.

We extend our condolences to the family and friends affected by this tragic loss.
