Baton Rouge, La. (2/28/2026) — Southern University will award Caleb Wilson a posthumous degree during the 2026 Spring Commencement ceremony. University leaders made the announcement during a Southern University System Board of Supervisors meeting. The meeting took place on the one-year anniversary of Wilson’s passing.
Wilson was a junior majoring in mechanical engineering at the time of his death. He also played trumpet in the renowned Human Jukebox Marching Band.
University officials said the degree honors his hard work and dedication. They said the recognition reflects his impact on campus and within the band.
So far, five people have been indicted in connection with Wilson’s death. The case remains active as legal proceedings continue.
The Human Jukebox shared a tribute on social media. The band described Wilson as “Forever Human Jukebox.” Members said his dedication to Southern University and the band family continues to inspire them.
The band also expressed pride that Wilson will receive his degree during the Spring 2026 ceremony. They said he will always be part of the program’s sound, standard, and legacy.
The Caleb Wilson Foundation also marked the anniversary with an emotional message. The foundation said Wilson touched countless lives in just 20 years.
His family and supporters say his memory lives on through the people he inspired. They called him “Forever a Juke” and said his legacy will remain part of Southern University.
