Louisiana State Police Seize Illegal Off-Road Vehicles During Mardi Gras 2026 Enforcement Operation

New Orleans, La. (2/15/2026)Louisiana State Police led a Mardi Gras enforcement operation near Canal Street and Claiborne Avenue after observing reckless driving behavior.

Troopers worked in coordination with the Louisiana National Guard and the New Orleans Police Department. The operation unfolded during Mardi Gras 2026 as crowds filled parade routes across the city.

Colonel Robert Hodges addressed the media from the scene. He said troopers identified several off-road vehicles traveling near parade routes. Specifically, riders operated four-wheelers and dirt bikes not designed for city streets. Moreover, many operators rode without helmets or proper license endorsements. The vehicles also failed to meet street safety standards.

As a result, law enforcement intervened to prevent potential injuries. Hodges stressed that the reckless activity endangered riders and pedestrians alike. Thousands gathered to celebrate, creating dense foot traffic near parade routes. Consequently, illegal off-road vehicles posed a serious risk to public safety.

Even though personnel staffed areas across the city, enforcement remained focused on traffic safety. Troopers maintained a presence near parade routes and inside the Superdome for Endymion festivities. However, Hodges said traffic safety remains a top priority throughout Carnival events.

He emphasized that unauthorized off-road vehicles create hazards for revelers and departing attendees. Therefore, agencies acted swiftly to remove unsafe vehicles from crowded corridors.

The Mardi Gras enforcement operation highlights the state’s commitment to public safety. Law enforcement agencies continue working together to ensure a safe and orderly celebration.
