FBI Gang Operation Arrests Show Stark Per Capita Differences Between Alexandria and Shreveport

Alexandria, La. (2/10/2026) – Federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies concluded a four-month operation targeting violent, drug-dealing gangs across Central and North Louisiana. The FBI led the operation alongside local, state, and federal partners working across jurisdictions.

Officials reported 742 arrests statewide during the operation. Law enforcement also seized more than 176 firearms, nearly 200 pounds of illegal narcotics, and over $250,000 in cash.

KTAL/KMSS reported that the operation focused on violent gangs and drug dealers operating throughout Louisiana. The outlet also reported that officials linked large quantities of seized drugs to Mexican cartel sources.

KTAL/KMSS detailed the arrest totals for Central and North Louisiana. “In the Alexandria and Shreveport area, 493 people were arrested and 109 firearms were recovered, with 369 of those arrests occurring in Alexandria,” KTAL/KMSS reported.

Using 2026 population estimates from World Population Review, Alexandria’s population stands at 43,133 people. Shreveport’s estimated population is 176,578 people.

Based on KTAL/KMSS arrest figures, Alexandria recorded approximately 8.6 arrests per 1,000 residents during the operation. Shreveport recorded about 0.7 arrests per 1,000 residents over the same period.

FBI New Orleans Special Agent in Charge Jonathan Tapp addressed the operation during the press conference. “When we work together, we maximize our impact against violent crime,” Tapp said, according to KTAL/KMSS.

Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill also commented on the operation’s scope. She said the volume of drugs seized points to organized criminal activity, KTAL/KMSS reported.

Rapides Parish Sheriff Mark Wood emphasized the importance of law enforcement partnerships. He said agencies will continue working together to help keep communities safe.

Agencies involved included the FBI, U.S. Marshals, Louisiana State Police, and multiple parish sheriff’s offices and police departments. Officials said the operation marks the third major enforcement effort targeting violent crime and gang activity under Governor Jeff Landry’s administration.
