Alexandria, La. (2/7/2026) – Congressman Cleo Fields visited Bolton Academy on Friday, February 6, 2026 as part of a districtwide school tour focused on civic engagement and leadership. Student Council members and the Air Force JROTC unit made up the audience during the discussion.
During the visit, Fields spoke with students about civic responsibility, public service, and understanding government at every level. He encouraged students to remain engaged, informed, and active in their communities.
Fields also visited Alexandria Middle Magnet School and Peabody Magnet High School as part of the districtwide tour. Each stop emphasized respectful dialogue and youth participation in democracy.
One moment at Bolton Academy stood out during the discussion. The school’s Student Body President asked a thoughtful question about rising violence and hate in the country.
The student expressed concern about the fear many people feel. His question reflected care and awareness, not confrontation.
Fields acknowledged the concern and told students the nation is experiencing a difficult period. He said the country will move forward by focusing on shared values.
He urged students to find common ground rather than emphasize differences. Fields said unity strengthens democracy and helps communities heal.
Fields also spoke about accountability in law enforcement. He said transparency and visible identification help build public trust.
He referenced his vote against the Department of Homeland Security budget. Fields said the vote reflected his belief in upholding democratic values.
Fields told students leaders from both parties are beginning to speak out against divisive policies. He said challenges often create opportunities for progress.
He closed by encouraging students to remain hopeful and engaged. Fields said democracy improves when young people care enough to ask questions.
