Glenmora, La. (2/6/2026) – An Ohio fugitive accused of multiple sex crimes involving young children was arrested in Rapides Parish after nearly eight years on the run. Authorities say the arrest followed a domestic violence investigation in the Glenmora area.
According to initial information, Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office patrol deputies responded to a domestic violence complaint last week. However, the suspect had already left the area before deputies arrived.
As a result, deputies referred the case to the RPSO Special Victims Unit, which investigates domestic violence crimes. During follow-up efforts, SVU detectives noticed inconsistencies in the suspect’s reported identity, then listed as Benjamin Moore.
Because of those inconsistencies, detectives suspected the individual might be a wanted fugitive. They then contacted the United States Marshals Service Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force to share their findings.
Through continued investigation and assistance from the RPSO Investigative Support Unit, detectives positively identified the suspect as Daniel J. Bohatch, 40, of Ashtabula County, Ohio. Investigators allege Bohatch committed sexual offenses against multiple victims younger than 10 and 13 between November 2010 and November 2013.
Additionally, Bohatch had been on the U.S. Marshals Service Western District of Louisiana Fugitive Task Force most wanted list since 2018. The task force assisted with his apprehension in Rapides Parish.
Ashtabula County Sheriff William R. Niemi praised the collaborative effort that led to Bohatch’s arrest. He said the case remained active for nearly eight years and credited all agencies involved.
U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott of the Northern District of Ohio also commended the cooperation between agencies. Elliott said law enforcement pursued Bohatch for years and remains committed to locating long-term fugitives.
Authorities arrested Bohatch without incident and booked him into the Rapides Parish Detention Center. He remains in custody while awaiting extradition back to Ohio.
Rapides Parish Sheriff Mark Wood said cooperation with federal partners removed a dangerous sexual predator from the community. He also praised the work of the Special Victims Unit and Investigative Support Unit.
Bohatch faces Ohio fugitive warrants, including six counts of rape, three counts of gross sexual imposition, and one count of sexual battery. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law or administrative action.
