Alexandria, La. (2/6/2026) — Glenmora Police Chief Wade Fitt warned residents that proposed police budget cuts could threaten public safety. He said violent crime is increasing across the town.
Chief Fitt said Glenmora is no longer the quiet community many residents remember. He cited frequent reports of gunshots and growing concerns about violence.
Fitt has served as police chief for just over a year. He emphasized that protecting families and neighborhoods remains his top priority.
Recently, officers focused more on visible patrols instead of traffic enforcement. As a result, ticket revenue declined over the past several months.
Because of reduced revenue, town officials placed the police department’s budget on the chopping block. Fitt warned that cutting funds would reduce officer staffing.
The Glenmora Police Department currently operates with only five part-time officers. Any personnel cuts would further limit patrol coverage.
According to Fitt, fewer officers would mean fewer patrols and slower response times. He said that reduced police presence could worsen violent crime.
Fitt urged residents who support the police department to attend the next town council meeting. He asked supporters to come peacefully and avoid confrontation.
The Glenmora Town Council meeting is scheduled for Monday, February 9, at 6:00 p.m. Residents should arrive early, as meetings may start ahead of time.
Fitt closed by urging the community to stand together. He said public support is critical to keeping Glenmora safe.
