Alexandria, La. (2/3/2026) — Comedian Josh Johnson recently earned a nomination for the 57th NAACP Image Awards.

The NAACP recognized the Alexandria native for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. He currently serves as a correspondent and rotating host on The Daily Show. This nomination highlights his significant impact on late-night television.

Johnson’s path to success began in his hometown of Alexandria, Louisiana. During his youth, a history teacher named Mr. Dennis Ward spotted his comedic talent. Mr. Ward predicted Johnson would one day perform on The Tonight Show (Source).

In 2017, Johnson fulfilled this prophecy during his network debut with Jimmy Fallon. He famously flew Mr. Ward to New York to watch the performance from the front row. This gesture showcased the lasting bond between the student and his hometown mentor.

The comedian now competes in a category that relies on fan participation. Unlike many other ceremonies, the NAACP Image Awards are fan-voted. Consequently, the Alexandria community has a direct chance to help their local star win.

The voting period remains open until February 13, 2026. Residents can cast their ballots online to support Johnson against stars like Colman Domingo and Wendell Pierce. Every vote brings the Central Louisiana native closer to this prestigious honor.

The NAACP will announce the winners during a live broadcast on February 28, 2026. This nomination marks a major milestone for the Louisiana-born comedian. Alexandria remains incredibly proud of Johnson’s remarkable journey to the top.
