Monroe, La. (1/27/2026) – Ouachita Parish power outages left tens of thousands of Monroe-area residents without electricity on Tuesday. Data from poweroutage.us reported more than 48,000 customers without power in the parish.
As a result, Ouachita Parish ranked among the hardest-hit areas in Louisiana. Meanwhile, poweroutage.us showed statewide outages surpassing 125,000 customers during the same period.
Across Monroe, residents experienced dark neighborhoods, traffic signal failures, and interrupted daily routines. Consequently, businesses reduced operations and residents faced limited access to essential services.
Compounding the situation, the City of Monroe issued a precautionary boil water advisory. Officials cited concerns related to water system pressure and treatment reliability.
Because of the outages, many residents could not easily boil water. Others worried about elderly residents and medically vulnerable family members.
At the same time, frustration grew over repeated service disruptions in the Monroe area. Residents raised concerns about grid reliability and infrastructure resilience.
Utility crews deployed across Ouachita Parish to assess damage and restore service. However, officials did not provide a firm restoration timeline.
Meanwhile, emergency officials urged residents to remain cautious and conserve resources. They also encouraged neighbors to check on those needing assistance.
