Alexandria, La. (1/23/2026) – An inmate died Friday morning after deputies found him unresponsive during a routine head count at Detention Center 3.
At approximately 10:15 a.m. on Friday, January 23, 2026, deputies discovered the inmate not breathing in his bunk.
Authorities identified the inmate as Issac Harris Jr., 44, of Alexandria.
Immediately, deputies and corrections medical personnel began life-saving measures at the scene.
Those efforts included administering Narcan for a possible opioid overdose, performing CPR, and using an automated external defibrillator.
Meanwhile, the Alexandria Fire Department and EMS responded and assumed emergency medical care upon arrival.
Despite extensive and ongoing life-saving efforts, Harris could not be revived.
Medical officials pronounced him deceased at approximately 10:44 a.m.
Following the death, corrections security investigators, internal affairs, and crime scene detectives initiated an investigation.
Investigators gathered evidence and conducted interviews with other inmates as part of the process.
At this stage, officials report no foul play is suspected.
However, autopsy and toxicology results remain pending.
Corrections security investigators confirm the investigation remains ongoing.
