Alexandria, La. (1/15/2026) – Alexandria police have made an arrest in the first homicide of the year following a morning investigation on Magnolia Street.
Officers responded Thursday, January 15, 2026, around 8:50 a.m., to the 1100 block of Magnolia Street. Police arrived after reports of a deceased individual at the location.
As a result of the investigation, officers arrested 33-year-old Areon Jones in connection with the homicide. Police charged Jones with one count of second-degree murder.
According to Alexandria Police, both the victim and Jones were experiencing homelessness at the time of the incident. Investigators are withholding the victim’s identity pending next-of-kin notification.
Meanwhile, the Rapides Parish Coroner’s Office previously confirmed police were investigating the death as a homicide. Officers continued working the scene throughout the morning.
Additionally, detectives stated the investigation remains active and ongoing. Police expect to release more information as it becomes available.
