Alexandria Police Say Marthas Drive Shooting Involved Self-Defense, Linked to Prior Case

Alexandria, La. (12/16/2025) – The Alexandria Police Department released new details Monday night regarding the Martha Drive shooting in Alexandria.

At 8:36 p.m., APD confirmed officers responded to the 5900 block of Marthas Drive around 4:20 p.m. Monday.

When officers arrived, they found a 31-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound. Police identified the victim as Avery Lewis.

Investigators said Lewis jumped into a parked delivery truck in a threatening manner. As a result, the driver, Robin Volson, fired a handgun in self-defense.

After firing the weapon, Volson immediately contacted Alexandria Police to report the incident. Officers then secured the scene and began their investigation.

Lewis sustained moderate injuries. Emergency responders transported him to a local hospital for treatment.

Police later determined the incident may connect to a prior shooting on November 8, 2025. That earlier incident occurred in the 1800 block of Henry Street.

The Henry Street case involved a home invasion investigated by the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office. During that incident, Volson shot and killed the intruder, Devante Thomas.

Investigators confirmed Lewis and Thomas were known acquaintances. Evidence suggests the Marthas Drive incident may have been motivated by retaliation tied to the earlier case.

Isolated Incident

However, investigators believe this was an isolated incident between two individuals. Police stated there is no ongoing threat to the public.

The investigation remains active and ongoing. At this time, police have filed no charges against Robin Volson.

Earlier Monday, UrbanCast received multiple reports of a possible shooting near Pecan Bayou. At the time of the initial report, details varied widely among witnesses, and police had not released official information.
