Bunkie Police Confirm Sunday Night Shooting on Rose Street

Bunkie, La. (12/1/25) – The Bunkie Police Department confirmed a shooting Sunday evening in the 600 block of Rose Street. The incident occurred at 5:47 p.m. after officers received an emergency call reporting a victim inside a vehicle.

Patrol officers arrived and found the victim in the driver’s seat. Bunkie Rescue and Acadian Ambulance responded and transported the victim to a nearby hospital. The victim remains in critical condition.

Investigators and the Special Response Team also responded. The initial investigation showed that a suspect followed the victim through Bunkie before firing a weapon. A round entered the vehicle through the rear glass and struck the victim in the head.

During interviews, officers identified a suspect. At 10:55 p.m., the suspect turned himself in to Bunkie Police. Officers arrested him and booked him into the Avoyelles Parish Detention Center #1.

However, the investigation is not complete. Police believe additional suspects may be involved. Officials stated that more details will be released when available.

Assistant Chief of Police Brandon Horton issued a statement. He said the community endured an act of evil on Sunday evening. He added that the department is praying for the victim and the victim’s family. Horton also commended officers for their response and investigation. He said the department remains committed to bringing everyone involved to justice.
