WASHINGTON, D.C. (4/20/2025) — The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has issued a public health alert for fully cooked pork carnitas products that may contain pieces of metal.
The affected items were shipped to Aldi supermarkets nationwide but are no longer available for sale in stores.
The pork carnitas were produced between April 1 and April 2, 2025, and packaged in 16-ounce sleeved tray packages labeled:
“Pork Carnitas SEASONED & SEARED PORK WITH JUICES SLOW COOKED WITH CITRUS,”
with “USE BY” dates of 06/30/2025 or 07/01/2025 printed on the side. These products bear the establishment number “Est. 46049” within the USDA inspection mark.
The alert was issued after the manufacturer, Cargill Meat Solutions, reported equipment damage during routine process checks that may have resulted in metal pieces entering the product. No injuries have been reported, but FSIS advises that anyone concerned should contact a healthcare provider.
Although the product is no longer in commerce, officials are concerned it may still be in consumers’ refrigerators or freezers. Consumers are urged not to eat the product and should discard it or return it to the store where it was purchased.
