ST. Tammany Parish, La. (3/23/2025) – A St. Tammany Parish deputy was killed and a New Orleans Police officer injured early Sunday during a pursuit on Interstate 10.
According to New Orleans authorities, the deputy was deploying a spike strip near the Oak Harbor exit when struck by a suspect.
The pursuit began in St. Tammany Parish and entered Orleans Parish shortly after 12:30 a.m., involving multiple law enforcement agencies.
New Orleans Police and Louisiana State Police joined St. Tammany deputies in the high-speed chase.
Officials say the suspect’s vehicle, which had juveniles inside, also struck an NOPD unit near Crowder Boulevard.
The NOPD officer and the juveniles were taken to a hospital. The officer has been released, while the juveniles remain stable.
The St. Tammany Parish deputy killed was a sergeant. His name is being withheld pending family notification.
Authorities confirmed all suspects are in custody, and the investigation is ongoing.
The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office expressed its sorrow in a public statement, calling the loss “devastating.”
