BATON ROUGE, La. (2/25/2025) – A Louisiana State Police Captain was arrested early this morning following a three-vehicle crash in Baton Rouge.
Authorities responded to the incident at 3:30 a.m. at Plank Road and Harding Boulevard. Investigators determined that 53-year-old Captain Belinda Murphy was driving a 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe southbound when she ran a red light, striking a marked Baton Rouge Police Department Dodge Charger.
The Charger then collided with a Toyota Prius.
Emergency responders transported Murphy and the other drivers to a local hospital for minor to moderate injuries. Troopers at the scene noticed signs of impairment and conducted a toxicology test, with results pending.
Following the investigation, Murphy was arrested and booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. She faces charges of operating a vehicle while impaired (first offense), vehicular negligent injuring (two counts), and failing to obey a traffic signal.
Murphy, a Louisiana State Police Captain arrested in this incident, has been with the agency since 2001 and was assigned to the Special Investigations Division. She has been placed on administrative leave while criminal and administrative investigations proceed.
Authorities emphasize that law enforcement officers must uphold public trust, and misconduct will be addressed accordingly.
