ALEXANDRIA, La. (2/21/2025) – RPSO confirms inmate death following a medical emergency at the Rapides Parish Detention Center in downtown Alexandria.
Sheriff’s investigators are actively conducting an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Authorities report that on Thursday, February 20, 2025, at approximately 10:20 AM, detention center medical personnel observed Kimberly Renee Goodman, 42, of Alexandria in distress from an unknown cause. Staff immediately began treatment while calling Acadian Ambulance for assistance.
Officials suspected a possible overdose and administered Narcan and an automated external defibrillator (AED) in an effort to revive Goodman. Upon arrival, Acadian Ambulance personnel took over treatment and transported her to a local hospital.
Despite extensive life-saving efforts, Goodman was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
Sheriff’s Detectives and the Crime Scene Unit arrived to investigate. Authorities have sent Goodman’s body for an autopsy and toxicology testing through the Rapides Parish Coroner’s Office.
While no foul play is suspected, the investigation remains ongoing as officials await autopsy and toxicology results.
Goodman had been in custody since Sunday, February 16, 2025, on charges of theft under $1,000, resisting an officer, and contempt of court.
