Alexandria, LA (October 4, 2024) – A fatal crash in the MacArthur Village Shopping Center has claimed the life of one pedestrian. On Thursday, October 3, 2024, at approximately 2:54 PM, the Alexandria Police Department responded to a tragic incident in the 1400 block of MacArthur Drive.
The fatal crash in MacArthur Village Shopping Center occurred when a driver experienced a medical episode, losing consciousness behind the wheel. The vehicle struck two pedestrians in the parking lot. One pedestrian was transported to a local hospital, while 79-year-old Merry S. Smith was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Witnesses reported that several bystanders attempted to help the victims. The Alexandria Fire Department and Rapides Fire District #2 were also present at the scene. Prayers go out to the victims’ families and all involved in this heartbreaking incident.
