Alexandria, LA (July 3, 2024) – Residents of the Third Street area reported a heavily militarized policing operation that began around 5:30 a.m. today and lasted for about three hours. The incident, appearing to involve the Alexandria Police Department (APD), startled the neighborhood.
Officers were heard ordering individuals to come out of two dwellings in the 2700 block of Third Street, repeatedly shouting, “This is the Alexandria Police Department. You need to come to the front door with your hands up.” The use of flashbangs or smoke grenades by the officers added to the chaos, causing many onlookers to duck for cover. Patrol units were stationed on-site, providing perimeter security between Crawford Street and Corporation Street.
As of now, no further information is available regarding the nature of the incident or its outcomes.
An email was sent at 8:02 a.m. to the Public Information Officer (PIO) with APD. However, due to a lack of communication and transparency from the Mayor’s Administration, there has been no response. Additionally, the three council members representing the district—Councilman Jim Villard (At-Large), Lee Rubin (At-Large), and Councilwoman Cynthia Perry—have not responded.
Stay vigilant and safe.
