Washington, DC (June 12, 2024) – Bonneval Foods, LLC, a Gonzales, La. establishment, has announced a recall of all its barbecue pork skin products currently available in commerce. The recall is due to misbranding and undeclared allergens, specifically wheat and soy, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) revealed today.
The affected product is sold in 1.7-oz. plastic bags labeled “BONNEVAL’S BBQ Pork Skins” and is identifiable by the establishment number “EST. 2249” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These products were distributed to retail locations throughout Louisiana.
The issue was discovered during routine FSIS in-plant verification activities when personnel identified that soy and wheat, both known allergens, were present in a Worcestershire powder used as an ingredient in the BBQ pork skin product. These allergens were not listed on the final product label.
So far, there have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions from consuming this product. However, FSIS advises consumers who have purchased these products to avoid eating them and either discard the products or return them to the place of purchase. Anyone concerned about potential illness should contact a healthcare provider.
FSIS is conducting recall effectiveness checks to ensure that the recall is communicated to customers and that the product is no longer available to consumers. The retail distribution list will be posted on the FSIS website at www.fsis.usda.gov/recalls when available.
