Simmesport, La (May 21, 2025) — A Simmesport shooting on May 15 left one man dead and a 16-year-old injured and later arrested, according to Simmesport Police Chief Jamshad Fayyaz.
Just after noon, officers were called to the 400 block of North Simms Street in response to reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, police found two males suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds.
Both individuals were transported to non-local hospitals. One of the victims, Terryondra Augustine, was later pronounced dead. The second individual, a 16-year-old male, survived and was discharged several days later.
After his release, the teen was taken into custody on May 19, 2025, and booked into the Avoyelles Parish Jail. He faces charges of second-degree murder, illegal use of a weapon, and possession of a firearm by a juvenile.
Police also arrested Kenneth Patterson, 28, in connection with the Simmesport shooting. He was charged with second-degree murder and illegal carrying of a firearm. Patterson’s bond was set at $1,500,000.

Under Louisiana Revised Statute 44:3(C), mugshots of individuals charged with violent crimes must be released upon request. In Avoyelles Parish, the request must be submitted to the arresting agency, Simmesport Police Department, which then forwards it to the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office for release, according to Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Chief Jamshad Fayyaz confirmed that the investigation remains ongoing and additional arrests may occur. He expressed condolences to the Augustine family and urged community awareness.
Chief Fayyaz also thanked the Louisiana State Police, the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office, and all first responders for their assistance.

Simmesport, LA (May 15, 2025) – A shooting was reported near Watson Street and Railroad Avenue, near Riverside Elementary School. AirMed helicopters landed around 12:30 p.m. The school was placed on lockdown out of caution. All students and staff remained safe as school officials coordinated with law enforcement.
