Scammers in Rapides Parish Posing as Deputies in New Phone Scam

Rapides Parish, LA (9/5/2024) – Scammers in Rapides Parish are targeting residents with fake calls, posing as deputies from the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office (RPSO).

They tell victims they have warrants for missing federal jury duty, failing to pay fines, or not appearing in court. These scammers are using real deputies’ names to make the calls seem legitimate.

Authorities stress that these calls are scams. The RPSO reminds residents that law enforcement never calls people to clear up criminal matters by paying money. “Never give personal or credit card information over the phone if you didn’t initiate the call,” the RPSO warns.

Scammers are also using “spoofing” techniques, making it appear as though the call is coming from RPSO’s number. The best advice is not to answer unknown numbers. If the call is legitimate, they will leave a voicemail.

If you suspect you’ve been targeted, call RPSO at (318) 473-6700 to verify any claims. Stay vigilant and refuse to become a victim of these scammers in Rapides Parish.
