Rep. Gabe Firment Launches Campaign for Louisiana’s 5th Congressional District

ALEXANDRIA, La. — State Rep. Gabe Firment has officially announced his campaign for Louisiana’s 5th Congressional District, promising proven conservative leadership and a continued focus on the needs of rural Louisiana.

Firment was elected to the Louisiana House of Representatives in 2019 and currently serves as chairman of the House Insurance Committee. His campaign centers on conservative priorities, including border security, agriculture, energy production, public safety, and protecting constitutional rights.

A native of Rapides Parish, Firment said his personal and professional roots have prepared him to represent the district in Washington. He earned degrees from Louisiana Christian University and Louisiana Tech University before building a career as a small business owner. He and his wife, Erica, a public school educator, raised their family in Grant Parish. Today, they are the parents of three children and grandparents of three grandchildren.

His campaign describes Firment as a lifelong Republican and committed Christian who has focused on lowering taxes, strengthening families, protecting private property, and delivering conservative legislative results.

If elected, Firment said he would work to secure the nation’s border, support farmers and rural communities, strengthen Louisiana’s timber industry, expand American energy production, protect Social Security and Medicare, and defend the Second Amendment.

Louisiana Municipal Association

During a recent Louisiana Municipal Association meeting in Ball, Firment also spoke about the possibility of a congressional campaign and pledged to remain accessible to local leaders if elected.

“Every single mayor, every single council person, you will have my cell phone number,” Firment said. “Nothing will change.”

He added that, if elected, he would maintain a congressional office in Rapides Parish and ensure his staff remains available to assist local governments and constituents.

Earlier in the meeting, Firment reflected on storm recovery efforts in south Louisiana. He praised local officials, churches, nonprofit organizations, and volunteers for helping affected communities. He also stressed the importance of documenting damages as officials seek federal disaster assistance.

Public Should Be Built on Responsiveness and Accessibility

Firment said public service should be built on responsiveness and accessibility. He told local officials those principles would remain unchanged if voters send him to Congress.

Louisiana’s 5th Congressional District spans much of northeast and central Louisiana, including Rapides Parish and many rural communities.

Firment becomes one of the first candidates to formally launch a campaign for the seat. Additional candidates are expected to announce their intentions as the election cycle progresses.
