Hazard: The surface heating elements on these ranges can spontaneously turn on, fail to turn off, or heat to incorrect temperatures, posing fire and burn hazards.

Details:

The recall involves Frigidaire, Frigidaire Gallery, Frigidaire Professional, and Kenmore Elite smooth-top electric ranges. These ranges feature rear panel rotary knobs and digital displays and come in white, bisque, black, and stainless steel. The brand name, model, and serial number are located on the frame of the drawer at the bottom of the unit. The specific model and serial numbers included in the recall are listed below.

Incidents/Injuries:

Since the initial recall in August 2009, Electrolux has received at least 212 reports of erratic behavior, including 14 fires and eight injuries from burns or smoke inhalation.

Sold At: Sears and independent appliance stores nationwide from June 2001 through August 2009 for $1,000 to $2,500.

Remedy:

Consumers should contact Electrolux or register online to determine if their range is repairable. If repairable, a free inspection and repair will be scheduled. If not, consumers will receive a $50 electronic gift card and up to $60 reimbursement for haul-away fees once proof of purchase of a new range is provided.
