Rapides Parish Public Schools Raise Over $11,000 for Cajun Navy Relief

Alexandria, LA (11/22/2024) – Students, staff, and families of Rapides Parish Public Schools together with the Rapides Association of Principals and Assistant Principals united to raise $11,347.90 by participating in a district-wide “free dress” fundraiser in October. Today the funds were presented to the Cajun Navy Relief, showcasing the power of community collaboration.

“Louisiana is no stranger to natural disasters, and we want to encourage our students to help out and give back to their communities. We are proud of our schools and leaders who championed this fundraising project,” Superintendent Jeff Powell said.

This morning, Shawn Boudreaux, the organization’s director, and the Community Outreach Team Leader, Saretta Langlinais, visited J.I. Barron Elementary in Pineville to accept the check and thank students personally. “This organization is about neighbors helping neighbors,” said Boudreaux. “We are grateful that a school district came together to support our efforts.”

The funds collected will help families affected by hurricanes, especially those in North Carolina. Rapides Parish Schools are proud to support this meaningful cause, reflecting their commitment to giving back, and the RPSB ethos and understanding that we are “Better Together”!
