Alexandria, La. (11/19/2025) – The Legion of Valor Bronze Cross is one of the nation’s most selective awards, and ASH cadet Nathan Smith has earned it.
This distinction places him among the top young leaders in America and gives Central Louisiana a moment worth celebrating.
Nathan is one of only 14 cadets nationwide to receive this honor in 2025. More than 450,000 JROTC cadets train across the country, including over 30,000 Marine cadets. Yet only a small group rises to this level. His accomplishment marks the first time an Alexandria Senior High student has earned this award.
The award recognizes exceptional leadership, academic excellence, and commitment to service. Nathan’s record shows strength in all categories. Furthermore, Medal of Honor and Service Cross recipients review and approve the finalists, which makes his selection even more significant.
Superintendent Jeff Powell notes that this recognition reflects the highest ideals of military service and leadership. He adds that Nathan’s achievement is a major milestone for ASH and a powerful moment of pride for Rapides Parish.
Additionally, this accomplishment would not be possible without strong support. Nathan’s parents, ASH faculty, school staff, and the Marine JROTC Cadre have guided and encouraged him throughout his journey. Their dedication plays a key role in shaping leaders like Nathan.
The Legion of Valor, founded in 1951, includes the nation’s most decorated military heroes. The Bronze Cross remains its highest medal for high school JROTC cadets. Therefore, Nathan’s achievement places him among an elite and highly selective group.
Nathan’s success brings unity and pride to CENLA. His accomplishment shows what local students can achieve through discipline, opportunity, and community support.
