ASH Marine JROTC Program Celebrates 249th Marine Corps Birthday and Veterans Day

Alexandria, LA (11/14/2024) – The ASH Marine JROTC program celebrates the 249th Marine Corps Birthday and Veterans Day with a special event at Alexandria Senior High School. The celebration included a heartfelt program featuring the traditions and values of the Marine Corps.

The event took place on November 13, 2024, and welcomed guest of honor Aaron Burr, SFC, USA Retired. Burr, a former cadet of ASH’s JROTC program, shared his inspiring journey from high school to a distinguished 21-year military career. His service included deployments to Bosnia, Kosovo, and Iraq, where he earned the Bronze Star for his valor in Operations Iraqi Freedom.

The program also honored the wife of Col. Joseph Martin, Jr., USMC, Retired, the former commander of ASH’s JROTC program, who passed away in April. Her contributions to the program and unwavering support for its mission were recognized, highlighting the enduring legacy of Col. Martin’s leadership and the family’s impact on the school community.

The program began with the presentation of colors and the National Anthem, performed by the Alexandria Senior High School Band. Highlights included the Marine Corps birthday message from the 13th Commandant and a ceremonial cake-cutting, honoring tradition.

Burr’s remarks reflected on the discipline and leadership instilled in him through the JROTC program. He emphasized the importance of resilience and service, inspiring future generations of military professionals.

Veterans Day 2024

The event also honored veterans in attendance, connecting the community to its rich military heritage. Cadets and guests enjoyed cake and punch, fostering camaraderie and reflection on the significance of the day.
