Natchitoches Woman Arrested in Connection with Severe Beating of Provencal Man; Victim Remains in Critical Condition

Provencal, LA (March 16, 2024) – A Natchitoches woman is currently in jail following a disturbing incident that left a Provencal man critically injured. Natchitoches Parish Sheriff Stuart Wright provided details on the incident, which occurred early Friday morning.

At approximately 12:52 am on March 15, 2024, deputies from the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a disturbance in the 2300 block of DeSoto Street in Provencal, LA. Upon arrival, deputies discovered a 62-year-old Provencal man with severe, life-threatening injuries.

Natchitoches Regional Medical Center EMS was called to the scene, and the victim was transported to a regional trauma center before being transferred to a south Louisiana trauma center, where he remains in critical condition.

Initial investigations revealed that a disturbance had ensued between the victim and a person of interest, identified as Destiny J. Reese. Both parties were reportedly acquainted with each other.

As deputies processed the crime scene, evidence, including a baseball bat, was collected, leading authorities to believe that Reese was the primary aggressor in the incident. Reese, 29, of Natchitoches, was subsequently taken into custody and charged with Aggravated Second Degree Battery. She was transported to the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center, where she remains without bond.

Sheriff Wright emphasized that the investigation is still in its early stages, and further details are being withheld to preserve the integrity of the ongoing inquiry. Additional charges may be forthcoming as the investigation progresses.

Anyone with information, video footage, or who may have witnessed the incident is urged to contact the NPSO Criminal Investigations Division at 357-7830.

Sheriff Wright commended the responding patrol deputies for their swift and thorough actions in securing the crime scene, gathering evidence, and assisting EMS personnel at the scene.
